10 Quick Steps to calibrate with the Gretag Eye-One

1) To print the target, launch AVA and select File > Open. Select Applications > AVA 3.9 > AVA Utilities > Profiling > RGB Targets > Eye-One and open AVARGB855Target(A3).tiff and print from AVA using your normal printer settings.

2) Once printed, cut the target along the stitch marks as indicated by the red arrow in this picture.

3) Launch Printer Cal.  Select File > New, and choose the "AVARGBTarget855" from the pop-up bar (you may wish to change the chip set-up to look more like the printout).

4) Select Setup > Instrument and select Eye-One.

5) Select Measurements > Start Measuring, you will see the following window.

6) If Use Strip Reader mode is activated, you can either manually set the number of chips across or choose the Auto option to automatically determine the number of chips. In Use Strip Reader mode, the instrument requires a new calibration.

7) Click on Calibrate Now and place the instrument on the white tile of the calibration plate.

8) Remove the ruler from the backup board and place the printed target using the clamp as demonstrated here (see movie).

9) Position the Eye-One on the carriage on the ruler and click OK in the dialogue window to start reading (see picture). Continuously press the black button on the left of the Eye-One, wait for the sound and slide the instrument smoothly and steadily from left to right, until the end of the row (see movie). Wait until the instrument has gathered the information before reading the next row. Repeat the same steps until the end of the second page.

10) Once the readings are completed, a graph window will appear. Choose File > Save Measurements and save the file in HD > Users > Home > Documents > AVA > Profiles > Printer. Create the profile by choosing File > Save as Profile, placing it in the same folder as the measurements file.
