1. Keeping up to date with AVA
If you are using an old Power PC (PPC) Macintosh, such as the power Mac G5 or iMac G5 with Mac OS 10.5, we recommend running AVA in 32 bit mode. Please do not switch to 32 bit mode if you are running on an Intel system.
We have found that Apple's support for 64 bit applications on the Power PC (PPC) platform is limited, therefore running AVA in 64 bit mode on a Power PC could cause AVA to crash in certain circumstances.

To switch off 64 bit mode:
1. In Finder go to the AVA 4 application folder, then highlight the AVA application (click once).
2. File Menu / Get info
3. If your hardware is able to run in 64 bit you will see an option in the General section 'Open in 32 bit Mode' tick this and close the window.
2. Please make sure you use the latest AVA Crash Reporter.
Unfortunately due to the complexity of software in general, it is impossible to test every situation and inevitably sometimes this can result in a crash. Fortunately the AVA Crash Reporter can gather and send the information back to AVA so we can further improve the product.

If you are unfortunate and crash in AVA software, the next time you launch, you will be asked to submit a crash report. Please ensure you check the version of the Crash Reporter software in this window by selecting 'Check for updates... ' in the AVACrashReporter menu. This will ensure that the most useful and up to date information is sent to AVA.
AVA, like many other progressive software vendors, are able to use this information to improve the quality of the software and it is considered an essential part of the continued development process.
3. Are you using the latest AVA update?
Recently there have been many enhancements and fixes released. It is our aim to get fixes out to our customers as quickly as possible. Updating to the latest version should only take around 30 seconds and all the user needs to do is select 'Check for Updates...' from the AVA menu. Not using the latest version could mean that you experience a crash that we have already fixed, so we urge you to keep up to date to avoid disappointment.
